Concensus Government.
A consensus government is one in which the cabinet is appointed by the legislature without reference to political parties. It chiefly arises in non-partisan democracies and similar systems in which a majority of politicians are independent. Many former British territories with indigenous populations use consensus government to fuse traditional tribal leadership with the Westminster system. Similar systems have arisen in the Pacificisland nations of Fiji, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, |
Community ServicesExisting Governments underestimate the importance of community services such as programs for at risk youth, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and homeless shelters because they do not understand the socio economic return. When money is invested in the community services jobs are created and peoples lives are transformed.
When we have a society where people are happy, healthy and supported we have a stronger sense of community, we have population retention, we have reduced crime, and more people are working and contributing. To acheive this it is important for Government to have an indepth understanding of the social issues, and tour political leaders have life experience and understanding that people come from all walks of life. |
AquacultureQuality Australian seafood can play an increasing role in helping feed our Asian neighbours; suitable sites for a large sustainable aquaculture industry exist across northern Australia and businesses are
pursuing large-scale opportunities. The potential for growth is backed by CSIRO research that has identified half a million hectares in the Northern Territory as suitable for pond-based saltwater aquaculture. These areas are at a safe distance from mangroves or other sensitive areas. CSIRO Food Futures Flagship says sustainable aquaculture development will be important in meeting not only local food requirements but also burgeoning demand for highquality seafood from Asia's growing middle class. |
Voters undecidedThe Giles government has no real chance of retaining a parliamentary majority after this election. But there is a very good chance that the ALP might also fail to achieve a majority in its own right. We may well see another hung parliament, with the spoils of government depending on how many Independents each major party can persuade to agree not to block Supply or support a “no confidence” motion in the government.
Therefore independents will be much more important in running the Government than usual, and give undecided voters a perfect opportunity to protest vote against both major parties. |
